Normally you would associate large distances such as 26 kilometers with
Olympic style Marathons. However this weekend Dunfermline Amateur
Swimming Club (DASC) awarded Distance Badges totaling over 61 kilometers
to the Club Members. Fifty Nine swimmers ranging in age from 5 to 17
years swam from 5 m up to 2000m in a sponsored swim to boost Club Funds.
23 swimmers received 2000 m badges, 2 received 1500 m badges , 4
received 800 m badges, 23 received 400m badges, with 1 member receiving
a 200 m badge. In the beginner Dolphin Squad 4 received 25 m badges , 1
received a 15 m badge with a final badge being awarded for 5 m to
complete the total.

The youngest competitive squad, the Bronze, swam for 20 minutes, whilst
the older squads swam for 60 minutes.
All badges are formal 'Scottish swimming awards distance' badges.
Whilst the majority of the competitors come from the Bronze and Dolphin
Squads the greater distances were provided by the Silver, Gold, Junior
Performance and Performance and Platinum Squads who added 49 kilometers
to the total. All Squads compete regularly both in Fife and Scottish events.
Membership of the club is open to anyone over 5 years of age. From
Improver's to Competitive Swimmers, lessons are led by qualified
teachers and coaches
