DASC Three - Carnegie Mini Age Group Meet Sun 18th November
Three swimmers represented DASC recently at the Carnegie Mini Age Group Meet held at Carnegie Leisure Centre, Dunfermline. In what was a very high class meet which was attended by over 20 clubs, all three swimmers achieved some personal bests and placings in the finals.
Aimee Adams once again swam well, despite being disqualified in her first event the 50m butterfly, she bounced back with pbs, including coming 7th in the heats and placed as 1st reserve for the 50m breaststroke, where she took part in the final and improved her place and time to come in 4th. Alison Tate continues to steadily improve, swimming in the Girls 9yrs age group she came 6th in the 50m backstroke heats and managed to improve her position coming 5th in the final. Douglas Gourlay competing in the boys 9yrs age group also swam well, gaining a pb in the 50m breaststroke.
Well done to all those who took part.

DASC Trio - Incas Graded Sprint Gala Sun 28th October
A very small team of 3 young swimmers participated recently in the Incas Graded Sprint Gala on Sunday 28th October at Carnegie Leisure Centre, Dunfermline.
Kirstie Greenhill once again produced a fine set of swims gaining 4 apperances on the medal rostrum in all 4 of her events. She came 3rd in the 50m Freestyle, 4th in both the 50m Breaststroke and 100m IM and 5th in the 50m Fly. Both Claire Kane and Karen Loveday who appeared on the medal rostrum with a fine 5th placing in the 50m freestyle, were once again competing and both swam extremely well in their events, showing promise with impressive pb's.

DASC Small Team - Hearts Premiere Age Group Meet Sat 13th October
A small team of 6 young Dunfermline club swimmers participated recently in the Hearts Premiere Age Group Meet on Saturday 13th October at Carnegie Leisure Centre, Dunfermline.
Two swimmers gained placings in the top six, they were Douglas Gourlay and Ciara Mussen. Douglas competing in the boys 9yrs age group swam extremely well, coming in 4th place in the 50m Freestyle while Ciara swimming in the girls 9yrs age group was placed 5th in the 50m Breaststroke and Backstroke and came in 8th in the 50m Freestyle.
Aimee Adam was just outside the placings coming in 7th in the 100m Breaststroke and 8th in the 100m Freestyle. Other swimmers Rebecca Gourlay, Claire Kane and Karen Loveday all swam extremely well in their events with impressive pb's.

DASC Trio - Fife Championships Sun 7th October
A trio of DASC swimmers represented DASC recently at the Fife Championships held at FIPRE, Glenrothes.
Aimee Adams continues to be on top form by producing a set of impressive pbs. She missed out on a medal by the narrowest margins in the 10yrs and under 50m Fly final, despite taking an impressive 5 seconds of her time from the heat. Karen Roderick(Loveday) continues to improve by reducing her times with a new set of personal bests. The other swimmer was Alison Tate, who was competing for the first time in the championships, produced a fine set of results by being placed in the top 10 for 3 events and gained pbs throughout.

DASC Young Team Take 2nd Place - Geordie Wotherspoon Memorial Gala Sun 16th September
A young team of sixteen swimmers represented DASC recently at the Geordie Wotherspoon Memorial Gala held at FIPRE Glenrothes in what was a very exciting and closely fought competition. There were medals and places, in total 5 Gold, 2 Silver, 5 Bronze and 6 placings and some impressive personal bests, including many happy smiling faces.
Among the many notable achievement, bringing home the medals were James Collyer (Bronze) and Kirsten Cronie (Bronze) both in the 9yrs and under 25m Backstroke, Lucy Thomson [Gold] and Mathew Timms [Bronze] both in the 9yrs and under 25m Breaststroke. Jennifer Milligan [Gold] in the girls 10-12yrs 50m Breaststroke, Eilidh Jordan [Bronze] in the girls 9yrs and under 25m Butterfly, Luke Dickson [Gold] in the boys 9yrs and under 25m Free and Karen Loveday [Gold] in the girls 10-12yrs 50m Free.
Completing the haul of medals were Gold for the girls 9yrs and under Medley Relay, Silver for the boys 9yrs and under Medley Relay, Silver for the girls 9yrs and under Freestyle Relay and Bronze for the boys 9yrs and under Freestyle Relay
DASC finished in an impressive 2nd place overall out of the 9 clubs competing.

Carnegie Sport For All Gala Sun 2nd September
During a friendly gala with Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club (DASC) and Carnegie Swim Club swimmers, a team of twentyfour young swimmers represented DASC recently at the Carnegie Sport For All Gala held at Carnegie Leisure Centre with some impressive swims from the youngsters taking part. PBs were the order of the day for all swimmers, some competing for the first time in their events. Seven year old James Adam produced an amazing personal best time taking an impressive 15 seconds off his previous time for the 25m Backstroke.

Fabulous Four - FINS Graded Meet Sat 18th & Sun 19th August
A team of four swimmers Kirstie Greenhill, Karen Roderick, Aimee Adam and Connor Crawford represented DASC recently at the FINS Graded Meet held at Kirkcaldy Swimming Pool with great results, gaining 2 silver medals.
Kirstie Greenhill, returning to competitive swimming, collected silver medals in both the girls 12-13 year old age group 50m freestyle and 100m IM, collecting personal best times in the process. She gained her third PB in the 100m freestyle, missing out on a final place from a strong field of swimmers. And PBs were the order of the day for the other swimmers, where Connor improved his 50m and 100m freestyle times by a massive 20 seconds in the boys 11 year and under age group category. Karen collected three PBs, including reducing her time in the 100m IM by 10secs. Aimee also competing in the girls 11 year and under age group collected PBs in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.

DASC Small Team - Incas Distance Meet Sat 23rd & Sun 24th June
A very small team comprising of three swimmers Ruth Laird, Sandy Norman and Euan McElwee represented DASC recently at the Incas Distance Meet held at FIPRE Glenrothes with great results. In what was a very high class meet all three swimmers achieved personal bests.
On Saturday Sandy was the only swimmer on the day, competing for the first time in the boys 10yrs and under 200m Breaststroke and in a tough heat, Sandy finished strongly taking an impressive 36 seconds off his entry time. On Sunday Euan for the first time swimming the boys 10yrs and under 200m Backstroke, kept a good steady pace and finished with a respectable time taking an impressive 21seconds off his entry time. Meanwhile Ruth had excellent swims in both the girls 11-12yrs 200m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle event.

Sibling Duo Great Results - Midlothian Minnows Meet Saturday 9th June
Brother and sister Katriona and Sandy Norman represented DASC recently at the Midlothian Minnows Meet held at Prestonpans Mercat Centre and both had great results. Sandy took home the Silver medal
in the boys 10yrs 50m Breaststroke while sister Katriona came 7th in the 9yrs and under 25m Breastroke.

DASC hosts Strong Team - Dunfermline Junior Sprint Meet Saturday 19th May
Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club (DASC) held their own inaugural Junior Sprint Gala with swimmers between the ages from 5 - 11 taking part from 12 clubs across Scotland. DASC yielded the biggest team with 30 swimmers taking part.
Among the many notable achievement, bringing home the medals were Lauren Pirouet (Silver) and Ciara Mussen (Bronze) both in the 8 and under freestyle. Ciara was also in the top 6 for 3 other strokes. Lucy Thomson grabbed a Bronze in the 8 and under butterfly. To add to the trophies was Alison Tate who won the Bronze in the 9 years backstroke, and featured in the top 6 for the butterfly, freestyle and breaststroke. Completing the haul of medals with a Bronze for the 9 and under medley relay were Lucy Thomson, Katriona Norman, Eilidh Jordan and Connor Crawford.
Whilst falling short of the medals, many of the squad were ranked in the top 6 in many events:
In the 8 and under were Douglas Gourlay (butterfly), Luke Dickson (freestyle), Ciara Mussen (backstroke , breaststroke and butterfly) and Eilidh Jordan (backstroke, freestyle and butterfly). In the 9 year category were Euan McElwee (butterfly) whilst Aimee Adam was placed in the top 6 for all four strokes. Rebecca Gourlay achieved a place in the 10 year freestyle and Esme Wilkinson concluded the winning streak in the 11 year breaststroke.
DASC finished a respectable 5th overall out of the 12 clubs competing.

Dunfermline 12 Strong Team - Falkirk Otters Mini Meet Saturday 21st Apr
Taking part in the twelve strong team from DASC were Aimee Adam, Connor Crawford, Nikita Earnshaw, Ruth Laird, Euan McElwee, Ciara Mussen, Katriona Norman, Sandy Norman, Jordyn Robinson,
Alison Tate, Lucy Thomson and Cameron Wishart. All DASC swimmers entered into the friendly spirit of the meet, there were many notable achievements with 21 personal bests being recorded.
Ciara and Lucy were both stars of the team, with Ciara taking home 2 Silver medals in the 8yrs under 25m Fly and 25m Freestyle, while Lucy took home the Silver medal in the 8yrs under 25m Backstroke. Both the boys 8yrs and under & 10yrs relay teams took home the Bronze and Gold medals respectively.

Dunfermline Squads - Warrander Baths Club Open Meet Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th Mar
DASC squads did well at this years high standard Warrander Open Meet taking part on two full days, in a meet with 25 clubs over Scotland competing. Whilst the main reason for competing was for competetive swimming, this didn't stop some light hearted dancing at the lunch break with a "Conga"being done round the pool on Saturday.
For the 9 and under age group Alison Tate and Aimee Adam both got off to a flying start by reducing their pbs in the 100IM by 10.21 and 4.97 seconds respectively. The 10yrs age group had a good turn out with Caris Bishop, Kirsty Davies, Nikita Earnshaw, Sandy Norman, Rebecca Gourlay, Ruth Laird and Isla McLeod all swimming well. All swimmers put in a splendid effort achieving pbs. A special mention should go to Rebecca and Ruth who beat their pbs for the 200m Free by over 20 seconds each.
On Sunday the meet concluded with Karen Loveday and Esmee Wilkinson taking part in the Girls 11yrs age group both entering into the spirit of the meet, with Esmee obtaining two pbs, beating her 100m IM time by a massive 18.77 seconds. Calum Ferguson competing in his 4th gala over the last 3 weekends, again was the only boy representing the 12ys boy age group, putting in some fine swims, obtaining two pbs, beating his previous time in the 200m Free by an impressive 17.45 seconds

Dunfermline Uno - Glenrothes Spring Meet Saturday 17th Mar
Calum Ferguson represented DASC in the Glenrothes Spring Meet on Saturday 17th March which was of a high standard. Calum continued improving his times with a medal for the 100m butterfly, narrowly missing a medal for breastsroke and backstroke in the boys 12years and under events. This was the first time he had swam in an event which had heats and finals.

Dunfermline swimmers put on a good performance - Carnegie Graded Spring Meet Sunday 11th Feb
Dunfermline swimming club participated in the Carnegie Graded Spring Meet on Sunday 11th Feb which was of a high standard. For a small team of swimmers there were medals and places, in total 1 silver, 1 bronze, 5 placings and an outstanding 15 personal bests.
Lynsey Averill , the ladies captain, led the way gaining three medals in her five events, including a silver in the ladies 15yers and over 100m freestyle. Her other medals came in the
100m backstroke and breaststroke. Team mate Francis Fairgrieve collected two medals including a bronze in the ladies 13-14 years 100m breastroke and the other medal gained in the 100m backstroke.
Calum Ferguson continued his medal winning streak, adding to his gold medal from last weeks Glasgow long course event, with medals for the 100m butterfly and backstroke in the boys 12years and under events. Calum took 4 seconds off his personal best times in the process as well as improving his personal best times in the 100m breastroke and freestyle, including a massive 25 seconds off his personal best time for the 200 IM.
Both Robyn Hesketh and Isla McLeod were outstanding, taking an average of 16 and 25 seconds off individual swim times.

Young Swimmers Upcoming - Grangemouth JAGs Saturday 10th Feb
A small team of 10 young Dunfermline club swimmers participated recently in the Grangemouth JAGs Meet on Saturday 10th Feb. Ciara Mussen put in an excellent result winning her first individual medal taking a bronze medal in the girls 25m freestyle. Team mate Sandy Norman put in yet another fine performance narrowly missing taking bronze in the boys 50m breaststroke with a 4th placing medal.
In all a good result with 9 personal bests being achieved.

Small Team Big Results - City of Glasgow Long Course Saturday 3rd Feb
Four Dunfermline swimming club swimmers participated in the City of Glasgow Graded Long Course Meet on Saturday 3rd Feb which was of a very high standard.
Despite only having 4 swimmers, some swimming for the first time in a olympic-sized pool, the results were fantastic. There were medals and places, in total 2 gold, 3 placings and an outstanding 11 personal bests.
Both Calum Ferguson and Ruth Laird taking gold in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle respectively. They also won 4th and 5th place medals in their second events; the boys 50m freestyle and girls 50m backstroke. Ewan McElwee won a 5th place medal in the 50m freestyle. Kirsty Davies put in a personal best performance taking 5 seconds off her best time in the girls 100 freestyle.

Young Team Big Results - Livingston Development Gala Sat 20th January
Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club took part in the Livingston Development Gala on Sat 20th January. 15 swimmers from the junior squads took part
in a series of events which is targeted at younger and less experienced swimmers. As well as competing, the swimmers have the chance to watch a
guest swimmer, usually from the Scottish swim squad, demonstrate the correct technique for all four strokes.
Euan McElwee was fastest 10 year old boy competing, winning the butterfly, backcrawl and freestyle and was 7th in breaststroke.
Kirsty Davies finished third in both her events (11 year old girls backcrawl and freestyle).
Both swimmers, along with Douglas Gourlay, Ciara Mussen, Aimee Adam and David Hesketh helped the mixed freestyle relay team to a successful
second position overall.
Douglas Gourlay was competing in his first open gala and reduced his best times in both his events by over 20 seconds to finish 6th in the 9
year old boys butterfly and 8th in freestyle.

Young Swimmer Big Results - Boness Winter Mini Meet Sun 3rd December 2006
Calum Ferguson took part in the Boness Winter Mini Meet held at Bellshill and put in a tremendous performance in the boys age 11 yrs events, taking home 1 silver, 2 bronze and 2 place medals after coming 2nd in the 100m Butterfly, 3rd in the 100m IM and 100m Backstroke, 4th in the 100m Freestyle and 5th in 100m Breaststroke. A good result with personal bests being achieved.
